Model motion for union branches, campaign groups etc to support the Campaign
We note
1. The likelihood of a Tory government after the next election. The Tories are promising cuts outstripping those made by Thatcher, including a massive attack on public-sector pensions. To make these cuts they will have to try to break the public sector unions.
2. That there is mass working-class disillusionment with New Labour – rightly so, given its record of snout-in-the-trough careerism, slavishly serving the rich and stifling Labour
Party democracy.
We believe
1. That the choice of government at the General Election will nonetheless be between Labour and the Tories – between a party still, despite its appalling record, linked to the unions, and an aggressively right-wing ruling class force. In the great majority of constituencies working-class activists will have no choice but to vote Labour.
2. That voting Labour ‘with gritted teeth’ but in political silence is not good enough. We need to link a Labour vote with a positive fight for labour movement democracy; for working-class demands like decent jobs for all, free trade unions and taxing the rich to stop the cuts and rebuild public services; and for a workers’ government – a government based on a renewed and reorganised labour movement that serves the working class as the Tories and Blair and Brown have served the rich.
3. That this is the best way to prepare a fightback against cuts and privatisation by a Tory government – or by another Labour government. It is also the best way to fight against the growth of the BNP and other fascists.
We further note
1. The formation of a ‘Socialist Campaign to Stop the Tories and Fascists’, seeking to link up labour movement and left activists across the country to fight for these goals.
We resolve

2. To donate £…

4. To circulate the campaign’s literature to our members.
5. To organise a hustings with speakers from different working-class candidates and campaigns.
6. To organise a lobby of our Labour MP/candidate on the basis of the campaign’s demands.
